Getting the room or rooms ready refinishing will be the most time-consuming process for the homeowner. You’ll want to move any furniture, wall hangings, curtains, and knick-knacks on mantles to a location where no work will be ongoing. You should also cover doorways with plastic and seal any air vents in the rooms to be refinished. Low hanging fixtures should be removed, as should any door that opens directly into the room. Doors that open out from the room can be left in place. Finally, you should turn off your HVAC so nothing is blown through your home in air vent leaks.
If you are having extensive refinishing work carried out, for instance, in more than half the rooms in your home, it might be a good time to plan for the family to be out of the house. Sending children for sleepovers, having a spa day, or just spending quality time with friends and family can be a fun way to spend the time and it can be planned in advance. Due to the extensive noise, possible dust, and constant movement, both pets and children should be kept away from these areas for the duration of the project.
